drivkraft bag nye AI-metoder og systemer er maskinl\u00e6ring. Maskinl\u00e6ring fokuserer p\u00e5 at finde l\u00f8sninger p\u00e5 &#8211; eller m\u00f8nstre i &#8211; nye data ved at l\u00e6re af relevante eksisterende data. Derfor anvendes maskinl\u00e6ringsalgoritmer ofte p\u00e5 store datas\u00e6t, hvor de mere eller mindre autonomt finder gode l\u00f8sninger ved at finde relevant information eller m\u00f8nstre, der er skjult i dataene.<\/p>\n<p>Dog er det ofte ikke nemt at forst\u00e5, hvorfor maskinl\u00e6ringsalgoritmer fungerer s\u00e5 godt i praksis p\u00e5 helt nye data \u2013 og ofte overg\u00e5r deres ydeevne, hvad den nuv\u00e6rende teori ville forudsige med stor margin.<\/p>\n<p>At kunne forst\u00e5 og forudsige, hvorn\u00e5r, hvorfor og hvor godt maskinl\u00e6ringsalgoritmer fungerer p\u00e5 et givet problem, er afg\u00f8rende for at vide, hvorn\u00e5r de kan anvendes og stoles p\u00e5, is\u00e6r i mere kritiske systemer. The result will be new generalization bounds, both showing positive what can be achieved and negative what cannot. This will allow us to more fully understand the current possibilities and limits, and thus drive the development of new and better methods. Ultimately, this will provide better guarantees for the quality of the output of machine learning algorithms in a variety of domains.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Value creation<\/strong><br \/>Researching the theoretical foundation for machine learning (and thus essentially all AI-based systems) will benefit society at large since a solid theory will allow us to formally argue and understand when and under which conditions machine learning algorithms can deliver the required quality. As an added value, the project will bring together leading experts in Denmark in the theory of algorithms to (further) develop the fundamental theoretical basis of machine learning. Thus, it may serve as a starting point for additional national and international collaboration and projects, and it will build up competencies highly relevant for the Danish
